Wednesday’s mishap, it was learnt occurred along the Ebute Aro-Ikorodu waterway, with about 28 passengers onboard.
It was gathered that the disaster struck between 6pm and 6:30pm, while passengers were rushing back to Ikorodu from Ebute Aro.
An eyewitness who spoke to The Nation on telephone said the boat was overloaded and had a crack.

When contacted, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Southwest spokesman, Ibrahim Farinloye confirmed the dead toll and said six persons were still missing.
He said: “According to first information, 28 boarded the boat. But 22 people were rescued alive but eight of them died, while 6 are still missing.
