First civilian governor of Plateau State and Premier Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Solomon Lar is dead.
He died around 9am, Nigerian Time in the USA after a protracted illness.
Lar was earlier in the day, removed from a life support machine after authorities claimed he was no longer in a state of danger.
According to a statement by the Plateau State Government, Lar died at 80 years.
Igbo group commiserates with Plateau people
An Igbo socio-cultural group, Aka Ikenga has commiserated with the people of Plateau State on the death of the first chairman of Lar.
In a statement by Aka Ikenga’s President, Chief Goddy Uwazurike, the group described Lar as one of those gagantuan politicians who appear once in a century.
The group said: “He looked immortal to his arear of influence, dominated and overcame his opponents and in the end became a statesman.
“He left solid foot prints in the sands of time in Nigeria. May his soul R.I.P!”
